Royal Visit
HRH, The Earl of Wessex visits Lillicrap Chilcott
Lillicrap Chilcott has welcomed His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex to its Truro-based offices. The Royal visitor was there to meet winners of the company’s “House for Tomorrow” Design Challenge and to hand out prizes totalling thousands of pounds to local youngsters and their schools.
The competition had three different age categories with entries invited from anyone aged 3-18. There were three cash prizes in each section with the main winner of each also collecting £1,000 for their school.
Run by the award-winning Truro-based estate agent, the competition encouraged local youngsters to consider the way homes are designed and built in the county. A similar competition was piloted last year in schools around the Truro area with huge success. This year the design challenge was opened up to participants across the whole of the county.
Andrew Chilcott commented: “Last year the schools put a lot of time and effort into making sure their pupils put a good deal of thought into their entries. This year we wanted to reward that dedication, and give the schools an added incentive to get involved, by giving the winning school in each category a cheque for £1,000.”
Ian Lillicrap added: “Creating comfortable, yet sensitively designed homes is essential to keep a county like Cornwall looking beautiful. We were delighted that the challenge was be taken up by schools across the county as a means of getting young people to think about how the built-environment in Cornwall could progress and develop in the years to come.”
More than 100 invited guests attended the prize-giving with the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Lady Mary Holborow escorting Prince Edward as he toured the building meeting staff and the lucky winners and their families.
Commenting, Ian Lillicrap said: “We were honoured and delighted to welcome His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex to Lillicrap Chilcott. He took a great deal of time to meet all of our winners and to speak to their proud families and I am sure it is a day that neither they, nor we, will ever forget.”
